Decatur is home to many weird and wonderful things, one of them is definitely The Commuter Gallery. M.Stewart’s friend was looking for a cool place to shoot some family photos, drove by this house and called us to go and explore. M.Stewart knew exactly where she meant when she said “the house with the iron throne out front.”
M. Stewart’s friend said she had called up the gallery and spoken to Clark (the artist) and he told her to come by whenever and have a look around.
After having thoroughly explored the front yard and discussing whether or not we were trespassing, we headed to the backyard.
I was the first to notice the Wizard of Oz in this tower. Apparently, it’s actually Bela Lugosi and the tower is the Bateman 5000.
In the backyard, we found another iron throne. This one was definitely more suited to our petite frames.
I find the little details in his work the most interesting.
It wasn’t until we were leaving that we realized what the stepping stones were!
The Gallery is very interesting. It was cool to walk around without any supervision and be able to have a tactile experience with the art. M. Stewart’s friend decided this was defo the place for her family photos.
Right before we were about to leave, Clark walked out of the house and started chatting with us. He told us that they are having a Stove Party on November 22 when they will light up all of the stoves and have movies playing on the Bateman 5000. We all agreed that was something we were keen to see!
