The closest thing to heaven in this city.

In “An Affair to Remember”, Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant agree to meet at the Observation Deck of the Empire State Building – saying that “The Empire State Building is the closest thing to heaven in this city.” Rambo and I booked tickets to go up the Empire State Building before we even left Texas. For me, this was a non-negotiable experience. So on our second to last night in New York City, we decided it was time. We were loving the beautiful effect of the low-hanging cloud around the Building. As she took our ticket, the girl told us that there was not very good visibility because of the bad weather and there was no refund if we decided to continue on. We shrugged and decided to go, because how bad can it be?

Word of advice: if the ticket people tell you that the weather is bad and visibility is low, trust them. As you can tell from our photos, the visibility was more like non-existent than low.

I strongly recommend buying tickets online ahead of time as it saves so much time when you arrive. I really enjoyed going up to the 102nd Floor. It does cost extra, but it’s much more intimate and special. I really enjoyed the history of the Building and pretended for a wee bit that I was Deborah Kerr.
