I have to tell you about this amazing documentary we saw today!
Fronzel, M.Stewart and I went over to the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema after hearing about this documentary, If You Build It. Essentially this is a story about changing the way kids learn. Check out the trailer:
This documentary follows Emily and Matt, who move to Bertie County, North Carolina with hopes of re-inventing shop class for the students and helping to reinvigorate the town by building things the community needs. This was a phenomenal film. It really opens up discussion about the traditional education system (both success and failures) and the way in which students’ lives can be changed by one teacher (you might remember me telling you about that here).
I’m not sure how widely the film is available right now, but the website lists loads of showings and asks you to get your local theaters to get the film. Seriously. This film needs to be on your must-see list.
