Twisted Root Burger Co. is hands down one of my fave burger joints in the Metroplex. The original is in Dallas, but they have like 6 other locations now. My parents and I went to the shiny new one in Carrollton right after I got home from Hungary. Nothing says welcome back to America like a burger.

Twisted Root brews their own root beer. Which is cool. But I’m not really into root beer. Now a mango lemonade? That’s an idea I can get behind.

I went for my usual: the Sexy Hawaiian. It has prosciutto, pineapple salsa, jalapeño jack cheese, and teriyaki sauce. I love this burger. The pineapple salsa gives it a subtle sweet flavor. And prosciutto makes everything better. This location made the salsa a bit different – with bits of raw onion in it. I’m not down with onions, so most of the salsa was kicked off the burger. But prosciutto, teriyaki, and cheese on a perfectly cooked burger is pretty tough to beat.

Mom went for the Big Tex: cheddar, guac, fried onion strings and chipotle sauce. She devoured that sucker like it might get away.

Dad opted for the burger of the month for September: Southern Comfort. A cheddar burger with fried green tomatoes, BBQ bourbon glaze and bacon. A man of few words, he simply stated that “It’s good”.

Instead of everyone getting a side, we went for the platebox of fried goodness. It’s not on the menu, but they will do it if you ask (obvi). Fried pickles, onion straws, french fries, fried green beans, and sweet potato chips (as in crisps, not fries). It comes with two sides of spicy ranch to dip it all in. This is the south to me. If you can eat it, you can fry it.

I first went to Twisted Root with Mom one day when we were in Plano. I’ve been hooked ever since. Twisted Root is a little on the pricy side – you’re lucky to get out for $10 a person. They also have game meat burgers like elk, buffalo, rabbit, kangaroo depending on what’s available at that location that day. If you’re looking for a splurge burger, this is the place. If you don’t like the pre-set burger options, you can build your own.
Update: Twisted Root has a new Burger of the Month for October called the Boobie Burger. It’s got pepperjack cheese with chipotle ranch and guac boobies. For any international folks, October is breast cancer awareness month and everything is either pink or has something to do with boobies. Mom loved the Boobie Burger and the sweet potato chips.

I got a different burger too! I got the Enough Said (and fried green beans). The Enough Said has cheddar, bacon-ranch sauce and …(drumroll, please) potato chips! I got a lamb burger, and it was yummy – but very lamb-y. There was no mistaking that taste!
