Libamáj Fesztivál!

Rambo and I were waking around town one day after lunch whilst I was trying to convince him to go on a walking tour of Budapest when we stumbled upon this.

A goose liver festival. Goose liver is such a part of the Hungarian diet that they have a whole festival for it. Of course we went in to join the festivities!
I was really wishing we hadn’t just eaten lunch because all of the food just smelled so delicious. They had massive concession stands set up that we’re cooking all manner of Hungarian foods (not just goose livers).The red stuff you can see is lecsó, which I described when we ate supper at Restaurant Zsakbamacska.

I was promised cake by Rambo, and so we found a stand that was selling baked goods and settled for this layered cake. This baby is called a Dobos torta or a Dobos cake. It is several layers of sponge cake with chocolate buttercream and topped with slices of caramel. This cake is delicious. It is sweet and light – perfect for a summer afternoon!

Rambo and I had such a blast at the Libamáj Fesztivál. It was refreshing to see something meant for locals. There were not many tourists that we saw at the Fesztivál. I love finding these little nuggets of local culture when I’m traveling far from home.
