Day 2: The Big Easy

Rambo and I started the day with an early lunch at Johnny’s Poboys. Supposedly the best poboys in the French Quarter. The place was super packed, so we decided to take our poboys to Jackson Square and eat them there. Graeme got the Surf n Turf Poboy – hot roast beef topped with fried shrimp. I went for the Judge Bosetta – ground beef, italian and hot sausage with swiss cheese. We both got them “dressed” which means lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. They were both super yummy. They were also huge! Neither of us managed to get very far into the second half of the sandwich.

After we ate our poboys, we went for a wee walk and shopping. Then came the pièce de résistance: Café du Monde. The place was pretty packed, but we managed to get a table and served rather quickly. Then came our treat: 1 order of beignets and 2 frozen café au laits. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, so I may have added quite a bit of sugar. As I looked down at the plate piled high with powdered sugar, I had an epiphany. Powdered sugar IN the café au lait! SO yum! We went for a long stroll around the French Quarter and ended up on Bourbon Street. We decided to eat supper at one of the many restaurants on Bourbon. I opted for a yum burger at Bayou Burger. Graeme decided to only have a schooner of Shock Top for supper. I got a Bourbon Burger with no onions or pickles with grilled mushrooms and garlic mayo. Oh man. This burger was absolutely everything I wanted in my slightly inebriated state.

What a good day in the French Quarter!
